Vine by Vine, Vintage by Vintage
Since 2004, Denise Adams has managed our vineyards to their full potential, replanting nearly two-thirds of the vines for quality, preserving the old vines still thriving, and adopting organic and Biodynamic practices. While our wines will always speak of our limestone, gravel, and clay soils, their clarity sharpens with every vintage we tend this way.
Château Fonplégade
Our Saint-ÉMILION TERROIR
On Saint-Émilion’s southwest edge, the slopes of the “Côte Sud” have long been revered by growers and wine insiders. Château Fonplégade has occupied this legendary stretch for generations, prized for its naturally protected amphitheater formation and southern-facing slopes, which gather sunlight across the growing season.
Here lie the purest deposits of the famous fossil-flecked “starfish limestone” (calcaire à astéries), an ancient seabed lifted to the surface by tectonic force over millions of years. This bedrock anchors five distinct soil profiles of limestone, clay, and sand, farmed across 30 individually managed plots, each parcel vinified alone or blended according to its own soil and vigor.
Château L’Enclos
Our Pomerol Terroir
The vineyard at Château L’Enclos spreads across three terraces on the sunny western slope of Pomerol’s celebrated plateau. Vines averaging 40 years of age take root in gravelly surface soils over subsoils of clay and iron (crasse de fer), which impart depth and tannic structure to the wines. Certified organic since 2017, the 9-hectare (22-acre) estate is now also certified Biodynamic, farmed with the same attentive hand that tends Château Fonplégade: one vine, one terrace, and one season at a time
